OF Matt Joyce has been missing from the Tampa Bay Rays lineup since mid-June but he is hopeful to return to the roster within two weeks. Joyce is hoping to start his rehab assignment next week. He originally hit the disabled list with a oblique strain but then sustained another injury, a “strain” during his rehab assignment with AAA Durham on July 4. The Rays are anxiously awaiting Joyce’s return while the team struggles at the plate.

Another player also prepared to re-join the Rays is OF Sam Fuld. Fuld, who underwent wrist surgery and has yet to play this season, is currently in rehab with the A Port Charlotte Stone Crabs. He has one hit in ten plate appearances.

Tampa Bay and the rest of the major league return to action tonight. Tampa opens the first game of a 10-game homestand tonight. Jeremy Hellickson (4-5 3.41) will take on LHP Franklin Morales (1-2 3.50) of the Boston Red Sox. Morales was moved out of the Red Sox bullpen in the middle of last month and has only faced the Rays in a relief setting in the past.
