The Baltimore Orioles signed RP Jair Jurrjens to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million dollars this past January, but now it appears that his season could be in jeopardy with Baltimore. Jurrjens deal could be worth as much as $4 million through incentives. The starter is having issues passing his physical prior to the start of spring training.

The Baltimore Sun is reporting this morning that the team is taking issue with the pitchers right knee and describes the physical as a “week long process”

From the Sun, “As for Jurrjens, it is becoming increasingly unclear whether the one-year deal between him and the Orioles will come to fruition. Vetting his physical has become a week-long process and it doesn’t seem like it’s heading in a positive direction.”

The Orioles learned last night that they have lost out on LHP Joe Saunders. Saunders joined the Seattle Mariners after signing a one-year deal, terms undisclosed. Baltimore had offered up a one-year deal as well but the southpaw opted to take his talents to Seattle.

As for Jurrjens, the report is looking bleak for the prospects of seeing Jurrjens on the mound this spring. After posting a 13-6 2.96 season in 2011 for the Braves, Jurrjens struggled with velocity last season and saw his ERA ballon up to 6.89.
