After dealing with injury issues last season, Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria is expected to be a large part of the team’s offensive plans this season. As the Rays prepare to play their first game of the 2013 spring training season, Longoria has reportedly left camp. Fear not Rays fans, Longoria is not injured, he has departed camp in order to be with his girlfriend in order to have labor induced on their baby girl.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Longoria’s girlfriend, Jamie Edmondson was due to deliver their child on April 1, but for unknown reasons, labor was induced this morning. The Tampa Bay Rays had no official comment but said that Longoria and Edmondson would release details about the birth when it was appropriate.

In case you aren’t familiar with Ms. Edmondson, she was the Playboy Playmate of January 2010 and recently did a photoshoot for NFL clothing. She grew up in South Florida and was a member of the Miami Dolphins cheerleading squad.

Here is Jamie modeling clothing for the hometown Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Safe to say Evan hit it out of the park with Jamie.

So now I know what Evan did last summer while sidelined and missed 88 games: making baby.

Is he entitled to paternity leave? And miss the whole spring training season?
