The return of OF Carl Crawford to the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup has hit a snag. The speedy outfielder, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in August has now been removed from the lineup for at least a week after experiencing soreness in his elbow. The team has described in injury as nerve irritation but reports that the repaired ligament seems to be doing fine.
Crawford will not be allowed to hit or throw for at least a week and his chances of being in the lineup for the Dodgers on Opening Day now appear to be in jeopardy. Crawford told reporters that the latest setback is frustrating since he is so anxious to return to the field.
Manager Don Mattingly told reporters that he just wants a healthy Crawford in the lineup, regardless of when he returns. “Opening Day would be great, but as I’ve told him, if it’s 10 days into it, if it’s 15 days into it, if it’s 20 days into it, I just want him to be healthy when it starts.”
